Same issue here as everyone else and I have tried all the troubleshooting ideas, but I have a few more insights and a hunch that the cause is related to what devices you have used it with. I've not super optimistic because I'm a previous owner of Beats Solo Pros, which also had quite a few issues a few months into use, but I can't help but notice that there are relatively few of us that seem to have experienced problems with them, so I'm very much hoping that I just got unlucky.

I called Apple today and after a very long, condescending 45 minutes on the phone where they carefully explained to me that iOS updates are good, a depleted battery might cause a wireless device to fail, how to hold the crown and play/pause to do a reset, forgetting the device on your phone might do the trick compared to "just" a factory reset, and it might be malicious software I was using (Spotify, Overcast, Quicktime) that was causing the problems, I finally succeeded in getting them to send me a box to return them for repair. Since about yesterday I'm down to only one or two minutes of use before they go. Like before, doing a restart or factory reset brought some life back to them, but also like before, while that helped get days/hours more longevity out of them in the beginning, the more time went on, the shorter the durations became. They weren't as bad as the first time around, but after prolonged usage they'd eventually just cut out - you could hear the ANC die, then a moment later they'd disconnect. I got about a week's worth of near perfect use out of them, but then issues started coming back.

A month or two later I picked them back up again and imagine my surprise when they appeared to be working perfectly! It seems that while I left them on ice, a firmware update had been pushed and it fixed many of the problems I was experiencing. I didn't call Apple right away, and basically just shelved them. Restarting or doing a factory reset would usually help, but always only temporarily - in the beginning I'd reset them and get days worth of more use, but then later the period where they'd work seemed to get shorter or shorter until it was just minutes.
They'd "blip" in connection (lose connection and come back), disconnect permanently sometimes, or the controls would just go haywire in that none of volume, play/pause, or mode transitioning worked. When I first bought my AirPods Max months ago, they worked great for a few weeks, but then I started experiencing all sorts of problems.
Even if not quite the same as yours or the OP's, I came here looking for other people seeing problems and wanted to chip in with another data point.
